KDM’s mission is to preserve and showcase the vibrant history of Kizomba culture. Providing a contextualized view of the origins, evolution, and social significance of Kizomba originating from the African Portuguese-speaking countries and its diaspora, the platform intends to become a dynamic space for Kizomba research and cultural study worldwide.

Moving beyond the simple representation of the format and embracing the meaning of the word KIZOMBA, meaning “party” or “celebration" in Kimbundu, a Bantu language of northern Angola, the Kizomba Design Museum S. Paulo projects represent the initial phase in
a strategy to create a tangible, institutional hub for the movement.

Initiated by visual artist Nástio Mosquito and writer/musician Kalaf Epalanga, the Kizomba Design Museum has a mission to host captivating performances and engaging discussions about Kizomba in São Paulo during the opening week of the 35th Biennale of São Paulo.
